Cheapo Venturer CD1282 boombox

I have one of those, which I picked on the sidewalk this past summer.
Everything was working except the cassette player (worn head or
something) and I was happy as the CD transport and electronics seemed
to be fairly good at playing badly scratched discs.

Recently, the sound became distorted so I suspected some busted
capacitors (Chinese made unit from 2001). I opened it up to look at
the boards, and I found a maze of units interconnected with short
ribbon cables and the like. A real monster! I proceeded to lift
the main board, which hosts the power supply filters, amplifiers and
CD electronics, in order to count the capacitors. I has to undo a
flat cable (this one not soldered) going to the optical module. I did take
some pictures, with the intent of making a list of capacitors, and
then proceeded to reassemble the whole thing.

Unfortunately, this killed the CD function, all I seem to be getting now
is some action from the CD transport, followed by a big E on the
display. One hour wasted in making a useable CD player totally useless,
with no justification in investing more time or money.:thumbsdn:

Long live old tube or discrete transistor radios!

Electro, I have several CD boomboxes that I rarely use, nothing special but ok to play CDs. PM me if you want one for the cost of shipping.

Yeah- People absolutely FLIP when I tell 'em its often easier-AND more possible-to repair a 50, 60, 70 yr old radio than it is to repair their Class of '95 Boom Box..

Taking note, but I got some local offers as well, so finding a replacement
should not be a problem. As a matter of fact, I do have at least two other
free-from-the-curb CD boomboxes that are working fine (Samsung and
Kenwood, so somewhat better quality). Regards.

If you think Venturer is so bad, guess what, all Toshiba DVD players, Blu-Ray players, and tablets out there in stores are made by Venturer as well.

I don't think there's anything worse than jWIN. That's the way it's spelled.
Lenoxx sound and GPX is nothing to brag about either. :D

I wouldn't touch anything made by GPX with a ten-foot pole. I had a GPX radio-cassette player about 25 years ago. Lasted all of three weeks(!), then the cassette deck went bad. Didn't even return it to the store; just threw it out. Haven't owned anything made by GPX since.

Funny that this thread has been reactivated. I'm just listening to the radio part of
this Venturer unit. Still works OK as a radio.

I have 2 of their AM/FM digital clock radios for about 10 years now, still working fine. But digital clock radios are quite simple devices, so that doesn't say a hellava lot...
