Flat faced CRTs.

Was there any real technical advantage to having a totally flat CRT face?

From a technical standpoint I think a flat faced CRT was much harder to do in terms of focus, convergence and geometry, from a viewing standpoint it's more accurate.

Main advantage, helps to reduce reflections. :-)

That could well be but the quality is nowhere near as nice....... The curved CRT is the best!

You should see my LaCie Electron Blue 22 CRT computer monitor, it has 22" flat aperture grille CRT. Absolutely glorious, higher than HD resolution, the pinnacle of CRT IMHO

I think that flat CRTs started with computers, less picture distortions, good for graphics.
Then it became a sales gimmick:yes:

In 2000 I bought a Zenith IQB27FW, it had a beautiful picture on it, probably the best I had seen up to that time. It was LG made with Zenith technology :(
