strange console phonograph? need help!
 

Today i went to a local flea market and i purchased a small night stand sized console phonograph. it plays 3 speeds 33, 45 and 78. The only brand name i could find on it is an MN looking inscription under the flip top, and on the back it has an MP Engineering Company, Fairfield, CT. Its made in my neck of the woods, and thats what made me want it... and that i love old radios tvs and phonographs.. lol. But anyways, i was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this?? I have been searching online and have come up with nothing. Ill post up some pictures tomorrow, its cold and dark outside now.i still have it in the car. I have a picture of the warranty card on the back of it , if that helps. i say its around from the 1940s, the platter of the record player is a dark felt, not rubber. any input would be awesome. Please help!

It says the company, then known as M-P Audio Corp., was founded in 1936 and manufactured custom sound systems.

The 7/11/60 issue of Billboard magazine also lists M-P as a phonograph manufacturer.

Had not heard of this company before. If it's 3-speed, it would likely be from around 1950 or later. The last "speed" to be introduced was the 45RPM in 1949. A look at the tubes and the controls would be in order.

I know your post is a few yeas old, but I find myself in a similar situation...I too, have come across a console that was made by MP Engineering. I have been searching the internet for information on MP but, have found very little.
My "fine" consists of a console cabinet housing a turntable, tuner, a pair of preamps with separate power supplies and a bunch of switching options. It also included a pair of modified Bozak speakers. I believe MP Engineering built the preamps and did the mods to the Bozaks. The preamps are pretty sweet units- high quality and built like tanks.
Let me know if you know anything more about the company.

Each box has (4) 12" woofers, (2) 6" mids, (8) 2.25" tweeters (1) super tweeter, (2) N103 crossovers and an additional cap for the super tweeter. They are monster-size. 40"W x 38"H x 20" D.

Wow, What a unit! I'd love to see what the control panel looks like.

The "MN" makers mark looks like M and the Greek letter "Pi" to me (and elsewhere using "MP" would support that). Maybe they went by "MPi" or "M____Pi".

Wow, I'd never have guessed it had a remote control.
I meant the controls in the radio/phono compartment.

I'm a dunce when it comes to stuff like this....but I am VERY impressed! This company took its job seriously!
