Kutztown report

Could not make it yesterday but Saturday was fun. Good crowd all days. And a few good sets to be seen. Report is here but could cover other categories. Prices if I have them.

A restored RCA 621 with a $3k reserve at the auction. Could not stay for
the end. Too pricey for this crowd.
Four different Dumont doghouses! One was recapped and working. Iffy
cabinet on that one. One very good cabinet. All $225-$250.
GE locomotive. Perfect condition.
RCA 721. Near perfect.
Full wood cabinet Sentinal. Near perfect. $350.
Moto 12" mahog tabletop. Gold plate bezel. Very good condition.
Admiral suitcase 19" BW. Clean it up and you are fine. Auction. $2.

Many other average sets.

I was offered a Westinghouse TRK-12 version for big $. Inductuner
revision after WW2. CRT is said to be good. Pix may come.

I was also offered a 1962 Zenith roundie. Last seen working. $125.

The DVHRC "Buy it Now" table was more to my space for now. These are
donations to the club that we sell to make our $. Our dollar store.

Philco 9" Xstr BW working. Faint yellowing plastic but good to go. $2.
RCA 70's portable plastic suitcase stereo phono working. Vinyl rules! $1.
Sencore bar generator working. $1.
Sears AM/FM plastic tabletop working. 70's. $1.
Caps for my 1966 Panasonic 18" color. Cheap. Vert out 15CW5 tube. Cheap.

Dave, Thanks for the report. I was there friday.
The TV action gets a little better each year. Its mainly an Antique Radio/Audio fanatic event but with decreasing HAM stuff. The deals on tubes cannot be understated!!

I see the same guys travel in from far east and far north every year and its a very good time. A few from OH and MD also. everyone is there for a good reason. Very well done and I would surely camp if nobody missed me back home.

That RCA 621TS looked real nice. They had it playing too.

I saw the GE Locomotive. There was a spare chassis and I ...think...he wanted only $85 for all. Does that sound right?

I was out of cash as usual, having bought a red 1954 RCA 14" metal set for $40, an RCA '38-'42 radio service manual for $20, and a Jackson battery eliminator for my AK-30, knob for a GE radio for and other cool stuff that I traded for. Now its out to the garage...just like christmas morning.

Suggestion for VK'ers; Take pictures of any sets you may want to sell/trade there and post on VK classisifed a week before (by September 6, 2013) then print pictures and take to show in case any non-VKers have interest (there's alot of them there). It really beats lugging sets there and then lugging home again, increasing chances of damage.

I'm going to have to run up there one time. Right now I'd be more apt to sell than buy; I'd want to know I could really unload stuff. The one time I set up at a meet (fall event at MAARC) I spent a week pricing/loading everything and then literally couldn't give stuff away. Wouldn't want to do that again.

I think that TV sales are still a bit soft at Kutztown from a sellers perspective.
I did well picking up one of the two GE Locomotives that were there (the one with the uncracked case) as well as a 17" Predicta and a 19" Zenith portable.
I also watched sadly as a Dumont Chatham with a pristine case sold for $125 (if I didn't already have one it would have been mine as well) and a mint RCA 721 sold for under $100, I had to pass due to a lack of space). It was the end of the day on Saturday, there were a lot of people interested in the sets but no decent offers so the seller was taking any offer.
Here was the table.... A nice collection!

All in all I enjoy the Kutztown meet and come home with a carful of great stuff each time.

I certainly wouldn't call that 721 anywhere near "mint", but it does look like a good deal if the CRT is any good.

I've always really liked the design of that DuMont tabletop with the triangular looking cabinet, as shown in your photo on that table.

A DuMont would make my collection pretty interesting.

I must make a point of being there on a saturday.

The DuMont "Dog House" RA-103 offers superior performance in a relatively small package. I really like mine, and even with the ion burn, it looks good. :D
