Although I'm trying to make room for the Buk auction TVs arriving next week, I couldn't resist picking up this awesome deco Philco from 1934/1935.
The bottom has suffered some nasty water damage and lost some trim and veneer, but otherwise I think it looks pretty good.

I'm a little worried that they had used it a few times in the recent past until it stopped working. Hopefully nothing is burned out.

The echo-absorbing screen has suffered a little damage, but I do have the broken out bits. Maybe it can glued back together ? At least the label is in excellent condition.

Curious that is says "Philco Radio & Television" way back in '34/'35 :scratch2:

I love the cabinet on that set! If only deco like that had remained popular in to the color TV era....

You're lucky to have that cover, usually those are long gone. Toronto office needed to sell in Canada but I find the London mention very curious.

Look at the power transformer on that beast! No wimpy high-fevered one.

I did a Philco 118 chassis but with one of their low boy cabinets. You know, the one with the speaker grille that is kind of shaped like a smile? I have that console in my kitchen and it sounds awesome. I think that chassis has push-pull audio with a bass attenuation circuit.

That cabinet is awesome. The contrasting woods is what does it. And the luck that you had finding one with the back cover. I've never seen one before. I dunno - I would have that bottom professional fixed before I'd try to patch it. I would value that cabinet first - I think they are pretty rare.

I might have it professionally repair if I knew anyone in my area that could do it. More likely I'll end up doing what I can to patch it up myself.

One thing I'll need some help with is making some replica scalloped molding. A chunk is missing from one side and I just don't have the tools to make some.

Those block caps are my favorite caps to re stuff. Aisde from removing/reinstalling them all you have to do is scrape the tar and guts out with a screwdriver and remove the leads from the terminals to where the guts were then plop the new caps in the shell and wire them to the terminals.

I have heard of furniture restorers making a mold of a good part of the trim molding, and using the mold to make a replica of the missing piece out of wood fill. If you can't find a shop or want to DIY the whole thing this method might be something to look in to.

I'm surprised they could get away using an 80 rectifier.
I like that Aristocrat 42, shown. That was the private label of the tubes sold at Walgreen's drug stores.
