New from SC

Hello all,

We have a few old TV's. One of them is a Sony KV-1201 which is making a ringing sound, but is still going strong. (Using it to watch the Stanley Cup as I type this). Another one is a bigger dinner style TV that works but is not converted. Next we have one with a bad picture tube, and then an Admirial Instant play B&W TV. Then there's a shower radio, a BetaMax, record player, etc. Pictures to come.

Welcome to the electronic nut house!

I like the GE Portacolor and that Sony.
I believe that is one of the first Sony Trinitron models, and IIRC actually uses a tube for the HV rectifier. That is one of the few Solid State TVs I'd actually like to own.

I just got a Portacolor a few months back. Here is a picture.

Unfortunately the GE is the one that needs a picture tube.

Anybody know what brand the black one is?

I could see the pics in your first post last night, but I can't see any of your pics today....Just some advertisement for photobucket.

I see an 8-track player, sweet. Hopefully it's not one of those units that uses plastic with a set screw in the top to hold the playback head in place, I have seen a lot of those fatigue-crack. Also, whoa, that's one huge Betamax. I thought my SL-5200 was big. I have seen them in pictures before, but not on top of a console TV.

I looked at it again and it's actually a Sony BetaScan. I think it's on top of the TV just because. It hasn't been used since about 1991. Currently using the black TV (brand???) and the KV-1201 for the NBA Finals :D

Nah, that's the name for the search mode that was introduced with that machine. It's a Betamax SL-5400, there ought to be a tag on the back or the bottom of the unit that says so.

Correction: More likely to be an SL-5600. I was trying to identify it on the Betamax Collectors site and got confused by the lack of a Beta logo on the front.

Anyways, welcome aboard.

Thanks for the info...I need to test this thing anyway. As you can see by the picture my KV-1201 needs the "Sony" emblem at the bottom. It seems that it shouldn't bee too hard to find a good parts TV. I read that it needs a coil? (It rings sometimes, for example right now)
