1983 RCA 13" Color EJR338WR
 

I went by our local thrift shop and this little guy was staring out at me from a sea of about 15 other sets. Four bucks later and it’s mine. It was made in August, 1983. It has lots of white paint splatters and was obviously in the home of a smoker, but there are no dings and hardly any scratches.

I always liked the styling of RCA sets in the early 80’s, very clean and tastful. It didn’t have the remote and I would like to find an original one. Does anybody know what they looked like or have a part number?

RCA's from this era were great TV's and this one is no exception. I'm sure it cost a pile of money back when it was new.

I have the EXCACTLY the same as the one in the Picture BUT it is an 1984 Model.

I have rescued it in spring of 2010.

It's Chassis is CTC117.

My 1982 19" ColorTrak uses the same remote this needs. I see that yours is labeled "ChanneLock Remote" as well. Here's what you're looking for:

I had a beautiful woodgrained CTC117 chassis 19" from '83 with on screen display and channel lock remote control. It got ruined in some weather in October. Tube was strong and the guns were equal in intensity with sharp focus. On later RCAs with the 'square numerals' on screen display, channels 91 thru 93 were designated A1 - A3, and accessed the composite AV inputs on the rear panel. Mine only had coaxial however
These are well worth saving. One day they will be rarer than the earliest tube-chassis color sets, since they have a stigma of being "later" plastic SS tv sets, and are often discarded.

Yeah, it seems like a pretty well made set. And, for only 13" it is heavy! It says RCA Bloomington, IN on the back, so I assume it was assembled there. I'm sure all the parts were imported, but at least something was still done here.

Why do you assume most of the parts were imported? I know for a fact that the filter capacitors, flybacks, CRTs, and most semiconductors were USA-sourced in the CTC117. Sure, some of the assemblies might have origin in Taiwan by 1983 but largely this is an American TV set. The cabinet plastics were fabricated by Dow chemical co. as I recall.

Perhaps so, but I'm thinking that even most roundies met the same fate decades ago, so who knows, sets like these may start springing up more often in years to come.

That's basically the same way my Samsung is.. It's assembled here in America, but the parts are imported.

You know, I just read a few days ago that RCA was the only US company to make their own glass bulbs for CRTs, so I should have known better.

RCA used imported parts as early as the mid-60's. The parts stood up well.

ctc118 chassis and sold for over $300.00 excellent crts and lasted forever. steve
