Trash saved - Hitachi S-88 B&W TV

Was driving near my area today and what do I see ? A VINTAGE TV ON THE CURB !
Why do people throw these vintage sets out when they still work ! :nono:
Their loss, my gain :)
Anyways, heres some pics.
Anyone have info on it ? I think it is from 1972
It is Made in Japan.

I'd say that's quite a find. That set looks to be in really nice shape and even looks to have a wooden cabinet; which, is rare for a B&W portable.

Nice little set. I picked up a small Hitachi CT1322 from 84' today that was either mine or tossed. It's a little colour portable about the same size.

The sliders for contrast and such remind me of the old laptops in the 90s. :)

That thing is a work of art, nice save. I especially like solid-state sets that are old enough to actually say "solid state" on the front. Sweet. It has my vote for nicest B&W set on this board (time to duck and cover).

I cant believe the condition of it after 40+ years ! Must be a 1 owner set !

Jon A. 07-03-2013 02:11 PM

Yeah, and in dry storage for much of that time apparently. My oldest set (1982) apparently was in storage for at least 7 years before I got it in May. That's probably accurate as the batteries in the remote were supposed to have expired last year. Fortunately they didn't leak, and were still working, but they were replaced anyway.
