s video to rca componant cable questions

Heres a question , if i was to get one of those s video to rca componant cables will i get a better recording off the componant outputs on the hd cable box to the s input on the dvd recorder ? i currently use the s out on the box to the s in on the dvd recorder and was wondering if it would increase the quality

thanks
mike

I didn't know what you were talking about, so looked it up on amazon. Looks to me like this does NOT convert the signal from component type to S-Video type signals, only makes an electrical connection to carry component signals on RCA plugs to component signals on the S-Video connector. Unless your dvd recorder has the capability to take component inputs on the S-Video connector, this won't work.

I agree with old tv nut. If the DVD recorder does not have a specific component-video recording input, then you should stick with the S-video input. There is no point to using an external converter/cable assembly to change the signal format.

the thought was if a 480p signal was being sent to the recorder instead of 480i it would look better ? sending a 720 to the s input wouldn't work would it ?

I think the DVD recorder will only accept 480i, not 480p and definitely not 720p.

There was one Philips model of DVD recorder that had a component-video input, but it was almost certainly 480i only, and for good reason: The DVD video standard itself is specifically 480i (except in the PAL world, where it is 576i) and not 480p.
