Shipping a 21" Predicta Holiday
 

Hey there everyone! I recently sold my Predicta Holiday and the buyer, a fellow collector, has asked me to perhaps pack the set for shipping via FedEx or UPS.

Knowing what packages go through, I am hesitant on this but he is willing to cover the costs of packaging and shipping and I would like to help him if possible.

I know right off the bat, the set would need to be double boxed, but are there any suggestions as to properly pack the set so the CRT doesn't get ripped off its mount and other possible atrocities?

Any help in this is greatly appreciated. I, nor the new owner just don't want to see this beautiful, working tv get ripped to pieces.

Use Greyhound package services. Cheaper, and the item gets handled much more gently. No giant sorting factories involved. Only downside is you have drop off/ pick up at a Greyhound bus station.

I also suggest removing the "head" and shipping it separately.

Dito! Every lead for the CRT holder module should be able to be unplugged from the chassis I believe there is also a set screw for the frame. When all preparations are done you should be able to lift the CRT module off. It should be safer to ship it in two pieces in separate boxes.

And don't say it's a television if they ask. The Seattle Greyhound was militant about it, complete with pictures of smashed flatscreens and other "modern" electronics taped around the freight counter!

Plus on the Greyhound service. Although I've only used them once so far, I will again!

Be SURE and ship the lens well-packed and separately.

Are you saying that I should remove the lens shrowd from the crt all together and pack the chassis, crt and lens separately?

I have never removed the CRT from a Predicta so I want to be certain here.

Antique radio for the chassis and antique glass for the CRT. You may be okay at the locations involved in your situation. There's just a lot of stupid packed in many Greyhound shipments, and they have no choice but to ask if they get suspicious. I had a chassis and CRT shipped to me with no questions asked at either end. I also had a metal-case 21-incher shipped from Kansas that weighed 111 lbs. (the limit is 100#) I was told when it arrived at Tacoma how they were surprised it even got on the bus! Every shipment arrives in good shape has been my experience. Pack carefully and all will be fine. :yes:
