Newbie needs a guide...

I have a Pioneer DVD/CD receiver that I have inherited, Model # XV HTD 520.

MY problem, the center speaker connection at the unit is dead, speaker its self is good tested it on other speaker connections.

Any ideas on how to repair, is repair possible?, or does it need to go to the shop?

All help is appreciated, and I hope this is posted in the right section...

Thanks

Look for a blown fuse. If it is worth fixing there should be one fuse per speaker channel (if a solid state receiver don't have speaker fuses I don't consider it safe to use) plus at least one in the power supply. Older and better receivers have fuse holders on the back newer and cheaper ones hide them inside the case. Always replace a fuse with one of the same amp rating.

Another solution is to see if it has a phantom third channel mode(that turns off the center speaker and adds it's signal in equal measures to the left and right speakers). If it is on that could be why there is no center, and if it is off you can turn it on and it will compensate for the dead center.
