In Ruthless People Bette Midler uses a Zenith Space Commander 400 or 600 remote with a TV that looks too new for it, and may not even be a remote set due to the power button action (not clearly seen), and may not even be a Zenith. Finally, when she is seen pressing the remote buttons to change channels, she uses only the mute and power/volume stepper buttons.

Hmmmm Ill have to look closer next time I watch that!! (I love that movie)

In one of the spinning news paper scenes in that film where they were showing record sales they had a brief clip of a phono playing a record...the phono arm was clearly a Zenith cobra magic which came out in 1948, but the film didn't have any scenes set post WWII.

Back to the future, the diner scene - you'd never see a Wurlitzer 1015 it a prime location by the mid 50's. And the countertop selector boxes were Seeburg 3W1s. Not compatible.

The stuff about owning two TVs? Weren't they advertising the idea by the '55 or so?

Reruns might have exited by then too?

There were plenty of folks with 2 TVs by the mid 50s many folks bought a ~10" in the late 40s and by 51-55 bought a new ~21" set. Some traded in the old one but many didn't. A few years ago I was given a literal truck load of TVs from a family that kept every one they had and seemingly bought a new one every 2-3 years until the 60s. Granted I could see a poor family having the perspective that nobody could afford a second TV...they didn't seem poor though.

The general public might have been ignorant to this but before videotape most live shows had to be kinnescoped for time delay which usually meant a week delay between East Coast and west Coast airings...this was especially true for stations that were in places out west that weren't yet serviced by network coax or microwave feeds and had to be shipped the kinnescope instead of getting the feed from Burbank.

B&W Panasonic @1972. Also had a color picture !! Well they were nice sets.
I always enjoyed TV spotting & TV bloopers.
