Atwater Kent Radio

Got one of these has 13 tubes, triodes with 7 tuning capacitors in a chain drive arrangement, interstage audio transformers,3,all have open primary windings, can these be rewound wire is very fine.

On audio inter-stage transformers the easiest solution is to replace them with two resistors and a capacitor. Replace the grid winding with about a 1M resistor and the plate winding with a 500-10K (use whatever value seems to work best) ohm resistor then use a .1-.01uF cap to connect the plate lead to the grid lead. As long as the transformer is not a center taped phase splitter for a push-pull output it should work.

I used that trick on a AK model 40 that I initially thought had an open inter-stage winding, and it worked fine....But my friend who owned the set wanted to try the original again on a hunch, and the blasted thing still passed a decent signal (albeit weaker than the RC circuit) despite measuring open on my DMM!
