New French Vintage TV Site
 

Hi to all,

A collector friend Joel Poulain has created a site to show his vast collection of TVs ranging from the late 40s to today.

Very many photo illustrations. Most sets have been restored and operate.

Joel was a Philips TV dealer for nearly 40 years, so has a lot of Philips and Radiola (alternate Philips brand in Europe).

Like the tape recorders. I have a Norelco Stereo Continental 401 I believe its a 1965 or so, very nice unit, I see they have a previous model under the Philips name on the site...

Very interesting! The variety is remarkable, consider we saw mostly 50s-60s German stuff here.

Like him, i've got a 1948 Grammont, 441 line set. Nasty animal with 6KV AC derived EHT. Any humidity in the air makes the thing fart a loud bang when it warms up; scares the Bejesus out of me !

Joel gave two interesting tidbits. In the phonograph section there is a suitcase phono with US ARMY Special Services written on the case. It's a phono dating from D-Day 1944 it was found at the US Army HQ in the city of Reims where the Germans signed their defeat and the end of WWII. The location is now a public school named after F.D.Roosevelt.

the VICTOR VICTROLA phono: in a vintage movie (The Untouchables) Sean connery playing inspector Malone hides his gun inside the phono.

For w2ise: Yes, Joel has a lot of 819 line TVs. From 1949 to 1983 all french TVs were 819 lines and/or dual standard 819/625. 625 started in 1964 with the second TV channel.

From 1937 to 1949, 441 lines was the norm. Paris did dual broadcasting in 441 and 819 until 1951 when the 441 TX caught fire.
