What is this connector?
 

Hi,
I just picked up one of the earliest U-Matic recorders, the Sony VO-1800. Does anyone know what kind of a connector this is (video out)? It's the biggest one in the photo. Looks like a coax but much larger. Thanks for your help.

Looks like an SO-239 socket for which you'd need a PL-259 plug.

Yup!

I made my own adapter by cutting an end off an RCA patch cord and soldering a PL-259 plug on. Works great with my Sony VO-1600. I don't know if this is the case with the 1800, but the 1600 has a built in RF modulator.

If it starts loosing color synch and wanting to run too slow for the H and V synch to work (color seems to be the first to go) try flipping the belts inside out so the face that contacts the pulleys does not.
