12kp4a crt

hey all, does anyone know if the 12kp4a crt is the same or can be used in place of the 12Lp4 crt and what is the difference between the both. thanks:scratch2:

The 12KP4 is the Aluminized version of the 12LP4, direct swap but requires no Ion trap and will have a brighter picture.

this 12kp4a crt is new but most of the dag is peeled off but i should hold onto it. can i buy the dag to replace it?

They sell spray cans of dag under the brand names areodag, slip-plate, and possibly other names.

Lucky dog! 12KP4s are very scarce. I've used both aerodag and slip-plate and like the slip-plate better. I'm pretty sure it's what Hawkeye used when they were still rebuilding CRTs.

This is the cheapest source I know of.

Either that or sell it. Definitely don't toss it.

What does this coating actually do? I have several sets with CRTs that have this coating flaking off and they seem to work fine. Is it an insulating coating of some sort?

The dag on the outside of the CRT and the dag on the inside form a high voltage capacitor that filters the HV. If there are islands of dag that are not connected to the rest and ground then dangerous and sometimes destructive arcing may result.
