Getting back into TV collecting

Picked up this 17" Zenith while visiting Chicago this weekend.
Model C1715-L, circa 1959 I think. Also drove over to the Old Zenith plant with my 2 boys. The TV works great on original parts! I guess the "Quality" really did go in before the name went on.

Surprising that they haven't torn down the old Zenith plant. Seems that all the good old landmark factories are disappearing making room for more greedy stores selling cheap foreign goods that never last.

I've heard rumors that Condo's might replace the Zenith Factory eventually.
Sad.

I saw they recently converted the abandoned Hallicrafter's plant to some furniture outlet or something.

Sad.

I wouldn't mind living in the Zenith lofts.

That's cool you brought your TV back to where it was born.

Shame to see empty factories, but there are a lot of them across America, especially in the Detroit area.

The factory don`t look different to the Studebaker Packard building
in South Bend Indiana.
Why american factories have always these huge water? tanks?

Thanks for the pics of the Zenith Plant.

92 million people of working age (and before retirement age)are unemployed.

...oh, excuse me, out of the work force. They're not counted any more.:smoke:

The water tanks were there for fire protection. Our Printing Plant had one a BEAUTIFUL 4-tapered legs up to a "Tin Man" tank. I was always gonna climb it, but my Dad promised me he'd KILL me if I ever did..Well, you know how the "Sap" rises in a little boy when he turns 11, 12 or so ? I was 12, it was likely Sept of 1969, & I was down there, & said, "Screw'em ! I'm gonna climb that water tower.." Well, I get at the bottom of it, & look up. Gulp. LONG way up there.. Saw at least 2 good "Pie-Plate" sized Wasp Nests, still QUITE active, & a couple of "Ham-Hock" BIG hornet nests. Uhh, maybe we oughta rethink this a bit.. LONG way to fall, covered up w/ANGRY Waspers/Hornets, & then having to face the wrath of Henry, my dad, to boot.. So, I NEVER did climb that water tank-And they tore it down a year or 2 later, anyway... Yeah, I know... I'm CHICKEN...

I am among them. And Washington is leaving the door open on
purpose for at least 30 meg more. 90% of the pols support it.
We have enuf layabouts. If we say work or starve there wont be any
unemployment. Hunger is a great motivator.
Remember what they are doing when you vote, only a hand full are
not part of the systematic destruction of our country.
Dont get mad, get even.

To keep it OT that Zenith is a great looking set. Had one growing up.
The Zenith plant is a sad sight. But if GS didnt break up Zenith
at best there would be a warehouse full of relabeled Chinese junk
and a hand full of salesmen for the whole country...........

America is dismantled. And rest assured, it was/is a bipartisan effort.:smoke:

We are on the verge of getting this thread locked boys. Not going to find much disagreement on this here, I don't believe.

Back to the set, I have a RCA Marlborough flip set that still works fine as found. She's up to probably a 100 hours or maybe even a little more of watching since I found it and still works fine. Sometimes (but not very often) they do.

Well I think as long as the plant is not being used, I would rather have it stand,
than to be torn down.... Its living history as long as its still there.....
Once it becomes a walmart, it won't be more than 3 months before no one
remembers it use to be a zenith plant. Now the worst you have is some
kid trying to sound out the name and wondering what it is..... Maybe he'll ask
what that thing is that says zenith on it.....
