Pioneer LaserDisc Jukeboxes

Hi all,

I was reminiscing about my childhood and remember going to a local arcade that is now long gone.. In the back is where all the video games and pinball machines where. up front was the "dining area" where they served pizza soda and French Fries.

The dining area had a jukebox but it was unlike anything I had ever seen before or since, it was a Pioneer laserdisc jukebox with a large video monitor, your put your money in made a selection and then it played the music video for the song on the TV. I thought it was the neatest thing ever.

I was wondering if anyone else had ever seen one of these in the wild.

That sounds amazingly 80's but no, I've never heard of such a jukebox.

I saw one in the corner of a food court in the mid 90s, but I never saw it powered up. Not sure if it had failed or it was simply because the selections hadn't been updated since it had likely been installed in 89-90.

A while back I found a Pioneer SD-26 TV without a tuner module which was likely part of one (few other reasons for a 100V Japanese NTSC TV to be in 240V PAL Australia), but there was no sign of the rest of the it.

The Pizza Hut in St Thomas had one of those video jukeboxes. My ship visited the USVI in '89, and I fed that thing a lot of dollars - lots of cool videos. Pizzas were so-so, but Paula Abdul, Martika, and Madonna strutting around on an 8' tall screen was way cool. When videos weren't playing, they had some British music video channel playing.....George Michael. Like I said, lots of dollars to keep the (ahem) ladies playing...

Cheers,

I can't find a usable picture of a complete unit, but here are a couple of pics I took of the Pioneer TV while I had it.
