Not unexpected as the same set was previously "sold" on July 20 this year by a seller in New Jersey for $885 to another buyer (and seller?).

Radio10467 is just across the river in the Bronx. The first seller said it made sound but the picture tube did not light up. That auction went to above $6000 before the two higher bids were retracted.

The big misleading "PRE-WAR" in the header did not hurt.

The header says "prewar" and the description says prewar design. totally misleading. If this set sold for anywhere near that price it must have been to a collector in Europe or Japan. There's an unnamed vintage TV collector that swears the 621TS was actually marketed prewar as an RCA Model TT-7 as well as a 10" RCA model TT-10. Convincing him otherwise has proven futile.:bash:

This is just SO much nonsense, IMHO. Shill bidders, fake bids, all of it. And eventually, legitimate collectors like us end up being the losers, I think.

If that's for real, the guy who won the auction had better be single, otherwise his wife will kill him five times before he hits the ground.

(grin) For THAT kind of money, it had BETTER be a brand-spankin'-new New Old Stock set, still in the original box/crate... w/a full compliment of Spare Tooobs, the factory service manual, owner's manual, & a couple of trinkets to give to yr Kiddies..

Looking at the bidder histories, all the three digit bids show 0%-18% bid activity with this seller. As soon as it goes to four digits, the bidder activity with this seller jumps to 50%-100% of bids offered. "Just the facts ma'am."

I am told he comes to Kutztown. I think I know which seller he is. $$$$.

I've never understood this Steve and have had several conversations myself with people about this. You tell them that the chassis used many miniature tubes that weren't available until during or after the war and they shrug it off. You then get the line "well the cabinets were made pre-war and then stored in a warehouse until after the war". So how did they design a cabinet before the war that was to small to fit any chassis design of the time that used all octal tubes? Do people really think this is how engineering works, the cabinet is designed and then a chassis is made to fit? I guess Vassos had a crystal ball so he was able to designed the cabinet ahead of time :/ Like you say, convincing them of this is futile. Let them believe what they want.

It's not a question of believing. They are trying to find some legitimacy to their spin to justify a higher price. Happens with a lot of things in today's world.

Dam I would sell him all of my collection with colors sets and 2 transvisions and both my 621 sets for that.

A little poking around on the Web could have netted all of those bidders a decent 621 for less than a third that price.
