The '75 HMV is quite the beast probably the expensive 26" in the world at the time. Were import tariffs fully dismantled by 1976?

No... tariffs go late 70s onwards. The HMV would have been locally made (or at least assembled).

Local industry just gone by mid 80s. (grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr)
