There's a pretty good chance you could make a working & restored one out of the bunch (LOL).

At what point is a collection considered to be "hoarding" or beyond that term??

I have not purchased any of the Royal 500's yet right now I am hooked on the Universals. I am curious do these 500 have their transistors in sockets like the SS Trans-Oceanic's ?

Well, my 500B Owl radio (circa 1957 definitely uses transistor sockets; printed circuit board construction). This might have been near the end of Zenith using sockets VS hard soldering them in; at least in this model series.
