Weeble Mini Horn Speaker
 

I've found my niche in vintage radio/TV collecting. With the addition of this speaker I have one of the finest collections of Utah brand speakers in all of Meridian Idaho south of I-84.

The brass collar connecting the driver to the neck is apparently a substitute for a missing part--the threads on the brass don't match the threads on the driver.

The speaker works well, with an authentic vintage tinny sound. It's about 13 inches high, and the bell is about 7 inches in diameter. Two things puzzle me. First, the bottom of the base/driver is rounded, so the speaker rocks back and forth when it's on a flat surface (Hence my appellation, "Weeble," as in, "Weebles wobble but they don't fall down.") Did this speaker maybe have a larger base that the driver fit into?

Also, on the inside of the bell, facing front, there is a mysterious symbol in gold-colored paint. I don't know if it was manufactured with the symbol or if it was added by a purchaser. Maybe it's evidence of an alien visit to Salt Lake City in the 1920's.

Anyone recognize this symbol?

I'd venture to say it was one owner's way of marking his/her stuff.

I'm guessing that the original driver/base has been replaced with a driver from a different horn that was perhaps front mounted, which explains the makeshift "adaptor" and the non-flat bottom.

Symbol looks sorta like a cattle brand.

Those replies make sense to me. Seller wanted $40, then reduced to $20. I didn't expect it to work, and I paid him five bucks--just about what it's worth to me as a decorative item. And who knows, someday someone might need the driver.

Since this isn't a whole Utah speaker, my collection is reduced by 50 percent.
