Where can I find the Black foam padding/spacing material.

You may have seen this stuff. It is a dense black foam material kind of like the white plastic foam you find in shipping boxes. Not sponge rubber but denser. As an example it is used to pad the detachable Wave Magnet on a Zenith Trans-Oceanic Royal 1000. it is affixed to the top part of the chassis above the phono input, the Wave Magnet sits on it. I would show you an example but it has completely rotted away. I am sure they make it but I have not figured out a search term to get me there yet. Any ideas?

Isn't that known simply as cushioning foam?

It might be, the problem is the examples I have seen are so deteriorated that it is hard to tell what it was like originally. I'll just get some of this cushioning foam and see how it works. Thanks.

There's black foam used by semiconductor manufacturers to ship and protect ICs. But that stuff is conductive, so it's likely not what you want. And it gets crumbly too.

Exactly, the white foam packing that cradles electronics in shipping boxes works but not for very long it is made to be biodegradable.

About a year ago, I needed some 1/4" thick black high density foam for replacing the cushioning on a turntable repair jig, and found what I needed at the Dollar Tree. It was a Halloween decoration, made of black foam, and I got it for a buck. I had to cut around some decorative stuff, but it yielded about .5 square feet, more than I needed.

I have found the perfect material it is the weather stripping for doors and windows. It is adhesive on one side and has the correct density you just purchase the width that you need.

Makes great battery door cushion. It's conformal so you slowly push the door shut until it clicks and it takes the shape of the batteries. Battery on right is external piggyback for 5 X 1.2V = 4 X 1.5V = 6V rechargeable supply.
