Truetone coffee table tube stereo from '67
 

This has been at the flea market for awhile; but, the price dropped to a level I could deal with and it came home with me today. According to the model number suffix, it's from the '67 model year (may have been made during late-'66) and is a tube unit (series string with a 35C5 for each channel). It somewhat works; but, will need a full going over before it will work properly. In the past, I've had the newer solid state version with a marble top; but, I think the tube models are a little better. I don't know who actually made this (I'm guessing either Admiral, Esquire, or Wells-Gardner); but, the record changer is an Admiral Ensign.

I like that, one of our church thrifts here has the Truetone with the marble top, priced at a mere $199.

The model number prefix is EIS; which, is the code for who made the unit. Unfortunately, I don't know what this code stands for. When I opened the unit, the tubes are all branded "Mitchell" and are Japanese. The rest of the chassis looks American. I wonder if the same company who built those bedlamp radios during the '40's also made this stereo?
