What year and model Hitachi ?
|
Looks like it says all transistor so I'd guess 68-77. Since SS was rare before then and calling a new set SS after the mid 70's was tacky and rarely done.
|
It looks very similar to the one my Bro in Law had in the mid 70's. It had a great picture.
I used to go over to their house so I could watch Battlestar Galactica in color, that was in 1978. |
Everything to the right of the screen is similar to that of a console I had to scrap due to its poor condition. The CRT's date code was 7552, so it was probably a 1976 model. I salvaged almost all of the chassis parts, I wouldn't be surprised if most could be used in this one.

Looks mid 70's. The first Hitachi SS sets had an
odd vertical chassis that came out in two chunks. Each had modules. Seemed like every model used a different chassis. Next generation apx late 70's was a non modular flat chassis with a overly complex power supply we all hated. After a few yrs they dumped that & the sets were easy to deal with. 73 Zeno:smoke: |
So is it worth buying for say, $5 ?
|
Anything is worth buying for $5 if you have a use for it. If you don't, it's $5 worth of clutter no matter how good of a deal it is.

Buyers paid extra, because of the cabinet. If it works, it's worth it! Seems as clean, as the rest of the stuff you buy. |
Definitely NP-4SX Chassis, 1975. Model?? Hitachi made a bunch of models from the NP-4 chassis, with different cosmetics - some with channel indicator lights, some without. There is a model number matrix in the service manual, and it covers models CT-905, -925, -935, -936. -944, -945, -955. My copy is crappy, and came from Hitachi's online "archaeology" archive.

The odd sliding doors between the two bedrooms (seen in the lower left) come in handy when I have to get behind whatever TV is parked in front of them. Right now my Admiral occupies that space. |
