Kutztown Zenith porthole
 

Kutztown was a bit thin on TV's. A restored Andrea consolette with a tired tube and a stripped and polyed cabinet. An 8TS30 in a mint body but unrestored. A wood Sentinel 7" but pricey. And a Zenith 15" completely restored porthole tabletop in the leatherette cabinet. There were other lesser sets. Hello Zenith.

Having two 630's in mint cabinets, I did not need another similar set. The working Zenith was only $25 more than the not working RCA. I waited until after lunch and pulled the trigger. My first Zenith. Seller had restored it in a good quality restoration and moved it aside for other restored sets in his home. It needed to go.

I cleaned the leatherette tonight and wish is was a bit more shiny but it is what it is. It is still in the trunk looking for a space in the ranch but I fired it there and all is well. Pix later.

You MIGHT try what I did w/mine-Go over it a time or 2 w/a couple sessions of shoe polish. Did that also w/a couple of black Zenith T/Os. They really don't "Shine" as much as they sorta "Glow"... Its a subtle difference, but a real one.

That was a nice porthole , what did you pay for it ?
there were other sets there , i lost count but there were at least 3 or 4 pilot sets , perhaps 5 , there was a motorola 9t1 i never saw but a vk member got it , emerson 7" , a not so great cabinet motorola vt-71 that end up in the auction , a locomotive , 50's zenith 17" , a predicta 17" , a 15" or 17" emerson that was white and pink that was in the auction , and a couple others.

I took a few pics of interesting items and that Zenith was one of them:) congratulations!

I keep tellin' everyone, a Porthole will LIKELY get you MORE compliments/comments than virtually ANYTHING else you'll have....... They're just SO "1950" lookin' to jaded 2015 eyes, especially Young 'Uns..

I kept wanting to take that same Zenith porthole home but the price was a little bit too high ($250 or $275) so I opted to go home and try to fix something I already have...

I waited until late Saturday to see if the set had my name on it. I waited until finally around 1pm on Saturday and I weakened at $200, down from $250. The seller was unknown to me but he did seem to be for real with his restoration. The RCA was last heard at $175 and it did sell. I was not there on Friday so I did miss the other sets mentioned. As I left at 2pm, I passed a dumpster with a RCA 17" rectangular poking up. Missing a few knobs. The dumper made no attempt to auction or BIN. Can't win them all.

Sandy, I did try the shoe polish trick on a corner. Clear polish. It did not do much. I may try more later with more coats.

I helped the owner put the RCA on top of the dumpster where anyone could rescue it. I guess it got pushed in.
It was listed in the auction and got zero bids and we couldn't even give it away. We had hoped someone would rescue it. It was a 21" and had knobs when we put it there.
