CTC-9 Tube differences / 3A3 socket
the 2nd IF which should be 6BZ6 is a 6CB6 , would that work ? why 6cb6 ? should i put 6bz6 back in ?
a lot of the 6EA8 tubes were replaced with 6GH8 and they show gas and shorts and grid emissions issues , i was planning to put some 6U8 tubes there if everyone agrees , also some 6GH8 tubes i have that are actualy good. the 3A3 socket came loose and what would be the best way to reglue it ? looks like it was done in the past with a hot glue or something like that mike |
I have been through the whole 3A3 set of issues. If the thing has been a problem in the past, and it is now; then it will be again. I recommend replacement highly. If the socket has been piece-milled together, I imagine you hear a slight hissing in the HV cage, but you can't see it as the socket is hidden inside the insulating cup.
This can/will give interference on your raster. Nothing drastic, but it will be there. You may not be having any of these issues. Either way I say don't repair a HV rectifier socket; replace it. I did mine and it made all the difference in the world. I cut out the series resistor soldered between two of the pins that is known to burn in two, but mine is a Zenith and they recommended removal. Perhaps not on RCA... |
Sounds like you need a "HV cup". If its like newer RCA
length is important here. Fix this first ! As for the tubes I would change all back to factory unless RCA them self recomended the sub. 6GH8 were horrible tubes anyways, we bought them by the gross. Keeping origional will help avoid unneeded alignment. Its best to avoid any adjusting of coils except convergence. 73 Zeno:smoke: |
