EEeeek!!! The finish on that set looks awful! It's going to need to be completely redone.

What??! Is that sarcasm? I can't tell :scratch2:

I was puzzled too. The original finish and decals appear to be in decent condition. Most of the condition issues are around the back. Look pretty good from the front I think.

No, I was serious. If you zoom in on the finish it's HEAVILY crazed and chipped everywhere. On top of that, it appears as though someone might have put stain on it and it darkened the cracks giving it a rough-grained look. It's horrible as it is.

Yes, horrible horrible. Everyone should retract their bids (and let me sneak in a lowball) :)

It's also factory original 69 year old finish as it is.

That's true. I am just making potential buyers aware of the sets condition. These, including mine, are often found original and still with a nice smooth finish. I've seen worse than this one, but still a refinish is in order for it. It's finish is entirely crazed and flaking off. I would suggest bidding accordingly.

I think the finish could be reflowed on this set, the coloration is very good, it's just crazed and flaked in some areas.

I'm not sure which veneer is on this one, is that Walnut? That would account for the coarser grain.

I wonder what the red writing on the chimney means, looks like Good ge? Maybe the Techs initials?

It's definitely the walnut version which is often preferred over the mahogany version because there's more of a contrast of cabinet tones.

It could have been much worse, they could have painted it pink.

Yup, I once had an RCA 630TS with the original stand that was painted carnation pink. Wonder whatever became of that set?

hi_volt 06-17-2015 07:41 AM

I got that beat.......my 630TS was upholstered in plaid.....:yuck:
