I was curious about this cap Reason I asked is it weighs a lot more than the foil caps I have replaced and the ends are hard it does not contain wax.

I've encountered a few of those too and tried examine the insides. The outside is very tough - -maybe even ceramic. The insides were damp so I'm thinking maybe oil impregnated paper for the dielectric ?

Hello hope some one who has restored one of these can answer this, When I power up this chassis I have audio and I have high voltage the high voltage measures around 5k.I have no picture just a dot which means no deflection if I am correct. I took the voltage reading on tube 6SL7GT and according to spec pin 2 is supposed to be 400V I am reading 39V Pin 5 is supposed to read 300V I read 39V. On the other side of the 10 meg resistors that go to these tube pins I am getting over 700V. What do you think is the problem?

dot = no deflection, vert line = no h deflection, horiz line = no V deflection. Is the 6SL7 red plating? I don't know what those pins are or the schematic for the set, but if they are plate leads and nothing but the resistors are connected it means either the tube is drawing a LOT of plate current, the resistors have gone way above tolerance, or there is a short in the tube or it's socket.

Tom, the high voltage 700+ is on one side of 10 meg the other end of the ten meg resistor is connected to pin that is where schematic shows 400V I read 39V that tube is the multi vibrator and vertical amp

Any one ever had one of those candohm resistors let go? phew I thought a rectifier smelled bad, I was checking voltages which all seemed ok had been turning set off and on a few times and I guess it got tired and the smoke showed, wife did not like the smell. It was a 20 and 40 ohm I do not know whether to junk the chassis or try to fix it. Its stuck up behind the tuner.

It's just two resistors; fix it!

I will, they will have to be mounted on top of chassis, when wiring these new wire wound resistors are they wired in series ? I want to make sure i wired it correctly it is item 108, a 20 and 40 ohm

The 20 and 40 ohm resistors are in series with each other, and are also in parallel with some tube heaters and a choke....If you follow the wiring and the schematic you should be fine.

I was working on chassis and trouble shooting why I had no deflection, I had just a single line across the crt. I noticed when checking voltage on pin 2 of 6SL7GT tube which is the Vertical Amp the voltage was going up and down and the deflection was trying work as the voltage increased, I guess the voltage spikes was that candohm shorting to ground.
