Help IDing these TVs
2 Attachment(s)
Trying to help someone identify these TVs which were in the Oval Office during the LBJ administration. Any ideas on the make or model? Those knobs say RCA to me...

The larger table model sets look like the first run of the RCA CTC17, mid-65 models or maybe B/W.
The portables look like Westinghouse B/W sets, mid 60's or so. I like the convenient placement of the ashtrays. :smoke: |
Looks like you're right the sets in the custom cabinet are CTC-17. :)

I've been to the LBJ Library at the University of Texas in Austin back in 1989. IIRC, the console TV's in the oval office were Zeniths (they have a mockup there) but the portable ones, I'm not sure, maybe Zenith? LBJ's TV's had the same channel knobs as our 1970 Chromacolor IIRC.

Someone on this list or AR has Lady Birds Zenith CC2 console.
I think he got it at auction. I think the color sets are RCA. I remember the B&W's with the thumbwheels but cant place the brand. I have seen both Zenith & RCA in white house pictures. I would think they got swapped out every few yrs. 73 Zeno:smoke: |
I think the BW sets are GE, chassis AB
edit: AB is the 23" chassis, the ones in the picture are the 19" "DB" chassis |

I'd say those large sets are definitely RCA CTC-17 according to this photo of a CTC-17 I found online at boxcarcabin.com.

I'll have to see if I could find those pics from the Johnson Library but those were Zeniths, I'm almost sure. Maybe at one time, LBJ used RCA' and then switched to Zeniths at some point.
