Need this HV cup/socket
While removing the HV parts of the Gilfillan set, one of the ears of the HV rectifier cup was cracked and fell off. What are the chances one of you fine folks out there in TV land have one or even a pair just like it?
It's about 2.75" across the mounting holes, and the round part is around 2-1/8" around. Socket is octal, holds a 3A3 tube. http://miniman82.4t.com/images/Gilfillan/IMGP6722a.JPG |
If you still have the ear piece, and it is fine otherwise why not just epoxy it back on?
|
It's inn too many pieces, I wouldn't ask if I didn't need it.
|
I'd make a mold out of some tape and cardboard, fill it with JB weld and drill out the hole.
|
I'd epoxy a piece of epoxy circuit board to the broken ear, either above or below the existing mounting ear. Depending which way Will allow mechanical fitting. It won't look that pretty, but it should work.
|
Could also use that mold kit you used to make a mold of the good part of the fly tire (if any is left), on the good ear, make a new ear out of properly tinted epoxy or some such, slice both cleanly so they can be smoothly glued together, and glue them.

Got a lead on a possible replacement, but it likely would need to be modified to fit. Still looking for an exact replacement if possible.

Nick, will this used one work for you (note missing lugs)?

Looks similar, can you send it to me?

I know that you found the set this way, but . . . . . Whenever one removes a HV socket or any socket made of this type of plastic, do NOT use lock washers when reinstalling. Lock washers just start cracks! Use a flat washer and do not snug it. Once gently in place, lock the screw head with a dab of corona dope (or nail polish, or any other thick paint), taking care to avoid getting any paint on the threads. James |

Damn, that's the exact one! Jim already sent me one, and I just installed it last night so I'm good to go now. I'll post pictures of it in a couple days, I'm working on putting the HV cage back together.
