Pilot TV-37

Hi Guys:
I am working on my TV-37 and have finished recapping and re-resistoring, I have never had any set with so many out of tolerance resistors. I ended up replacing all of them!
Anyway, I am to the point of doing the alignment and am peaking the IF coils and all of them are backed all the way out to the top and I have not reached the peak. The reception is pretty good and I can live with it the way it is but I think it can be better. I would think if things were correct the adjustments should be about midway in the coil. Anyone have a thought on this?
Thanks

Gregb

Peaking the IF coils?? Do you mean as if peaking the IFs in an AM radio?

The IF strip in a TV is not 'peaked' but stagger-tuned to accommodate the wideband video signal. To do it right requires a sweep generator and oscilloscope.

Sorry, I don't have all of the terminology down just yet but yes I understand it is stager tuned to a few different frequencies. I did not have to adjust hardly at all from as found but all of them are right at the end of adjustment. The picture and sound are very good so I am happy with it as is but was just wondering why they ended up where they did.

As long as the pic is good with no ringing or smearing of fine detail (symptoms of IF misalignment), you're good irrespective of where the slugs end up.

It looks pretty good on that little tiny screen and to my bad eyes. I just followed the alignment that the Sams shows using my signal generator and VTVM. I have picked up a WaveTek 1080 sweep generator that I am just in the process of checking out and will give it a sweep check shortly I hope.

TV-37s are CUTE, & still reasonably plentiful, altho GOOD examples are harder to find nowadays. I think mine was the 1st "Vintage" TV I ever got on Evilbay, 15-20 yrs ago.
