The classic Atwater Kent 165
 

I just acquired this very fine original AK 165. The delicate grill-work, compact size, and nice proportions make this one of my favorite cathedral models. It just instantly evokes the 1930's as soon as you look at it. You can almost hear FDR's fireside chats coming from it. A collector friend got this one a while back and I told him to call me if he ever decided to sell it. When I got the call yesterday I bolted for his house! :)

That radio is a beauty, is it restored ?

No, it's one of those fairly rare to find nice originals that likely went from the original owners hands directly to a collectors shelf. I always do the Howards treatment to all my sets, but this is the first one where I even hesitated doing that. It just has an expected very light aged patina that's perfect. The chassis and speaker is just as nice too. In the early '80's I used to find vintage sets like this all the time, but it's a rarity for something this old nowadays.
