Television at WRGB - 1944

Booklet issued by GE's pioneering TV station WRGB in Schenectady, NY, in 1944.

Note the boxing match on p.15 uses the mercury vapor lamps that were mentioned in an old thread.

With that callsign, I would have figured that they were doing research and development in color. :D

Wayne,

Thanks for posting. Adding a couple of pre-war or perhaps wartime WRGB-TV studio photos from my collection.

I printed out a couple pages and framed them :)

I suspect the call WRGB had something to do with Walter R G Baker who headed GE's television development and also led the two NTSC's to arrive first at the B&W 525 line standard and later color television.

What a great public relations piece for TV! There just has to be more stuff like this.
I'll have to see what Dave A and I can dig up on Philco's WPTZ-TV (not the one in Plattsburgh).
Philco had their station up before the war and broadcast the first football game from U-Penn.
