Westinghouse 5T112
 

I picked this up for $5 at a garage sale. It's a Canadian model and it looks to be pretty darn identical to the H385T5, except that mine doesn't have a snooze or switched outlet on the clock.

The two main knobs are present but the two clear knobs for the clock and the large dial for the tuner is gone. It looks like the tuning dial broke off once before and was glued back on, only to break off again. I don't have a replacement. The case has some cracks but it's very much repairable.
The 12BE6 had gone to air. When it was pulled out it appeared that the base had cracked. Second time I've seen that now. The rest of the tubes were fine and tested good.

It's an extremely simple cold chassis radio. It has one hybrid circuit and an early PCB but also only five capacitors that will need to be replaced, one being a cardboard can with two 150v 50uf. I didn't have any caps so I decided to ride shotgun and bring it up anyways on the variac once I got a new 12BE6. There's so little inside the radio that if things didn't behave it wouldn't be too hard to fix.
It seemed to come up fine and for about 30 seconds I was getting static out of the speaker, then there was a crackle, the 35W4 started arcing and smoke started to come out. Damn. :thumbsdn:

The 35W4 seems to still be happy but there's a 22 ohm 1/2 watt resistor attached to the cathode that burned up. Schematic shows it goes to the center tap on the speaker transformer and one of the two 50uf caps in the cardboard tube. I wonder where the problem is... :hmm:

I just got back form the damn coast so it might be a while before I can tackle the guts. For now I'll try cleaning the exterior.

I have the same style Westinghouse clock radio, US built in a plain brown plastic cabinet. It still uses a hand wired chassis, 1953/54 model. The plastic crystal for the tuning indicator is gone, by the pointer is there. The clock in mine is only a one function, on-off-auto.

You got any good photos of the tuning indicator? I just access to a laser cutter so I might be able to see if I can make a new one out of an acrylic sheet.
