What model L Tatro is this
 
Nothing printed anywhere. Big clips on the power leads suggests a battery radio or a really makeshift power supply.

There seems to be no rectifier and the tube filaments appear to be battery type (thus why I did not call them heaters) so I agree with your guess that it is a battery radio.

Do you have the Collectors guide to Antique Radios? If so look up the maker, look at the models that are battery sets and compare cabinet descriptions, then look up the riders (especially if there is more than 1 match) and see if the chassis matches the riders.

Those big battery clips suggest operation off a 6-volt storage battery. I'll bet the metal box contains a transformer and vibrator high voltage supply.

It probably has a Synchonous vibrator for rectification and a transformer.
I have a Setchell Carlson tombstone, that I converted to AC operation.
It was an interesting conversion. It uses the speaker field to drop the 6 volt source down to 2 volts for the tube filaments.
That model is not covered in Riders. :sigh:

Was probably a farm radio. Back in the days where rural locations didn't have access to REA electricity or them there fancy shmancy tely-ma-fones.

I looked at most of the Riders, under L'Tatro and don't seem to see that chassis design. It seems that all they built was 6 volt and 32 volt sets, with all types of tube combinations, some heater type and some filamentary.
Furnish the tube types, so a comparison can be made. :scratch2:

Thanks for posting the tube lineup. The mystery tube should be the 1F4, output tetrode. That's the tube, that the EN6-4 calls for.

Got everything recapped tonight. Hooked up a small 6V wall PS without tubes and heard the vibrator humming. It wasn't enough to light the tubes though. Would something like this power this radio?

It likely would have enough power, but SMPS tend to put out lots of RF noise that would jam reception. Personally I'd look for an old transformer type 6V battery charger and put 2-4 stages of RC and or LC low pass filters between it and the radio.

Kinda what I thought. I picked up an EICO 1064s and powered it up after all the caps were replaced. Good news is that she plays and has decent reception but the amplification is low. The speaker is a small replacement that was in the case when I got it so I need to figure out what the correct speaker would be. Also, the IF4 tests borderline on my Nat'l Lab tester. Also need to verify all the resistors.

The radio originally used a high impedance magnetic speaker. Trying to run a low impedance PM speaker without an output transformer would be too low of a resistance plate load on the output tube.
You'd have to consult a tube manual to see what the plate load is needed for that particular tube. :scratch2:

I was trying to do a little research on the transformer needed. It seems like an output transformer intended for a battery output tube would meet the plate load of the output tube used. An output transformer from an AA5 is too low of an impedance. The proper transformer would be one from a portable type radio that uses a 3V4, 3Q5, 1A5 etc. Not perfect, but close.
Works OK on my Coronado farm radio, that uses a 33 output tube. The radio originally used a magnetic high impedance speaker. :thmbsp:

I connected this to the coil/speaker on another battery radio and it sounded loud and proud. It was a 675 ohm coil I believe. I found a 400 ohm coil and used it with the little speaker and it improved the sound tremendously. Looking for a 5" speaker and 600-700 coil.
