Barn find! Garod 900TV & more

Got a call from an old friend in the radio circles yesterday. He was at a barn sale and sent me a pic of a TV, asked me if I was interested. Hellz yeah! :D

Got in my car after work and made the two hour drive, which was well worth it.

Here's what I ended up with. Along with the Garod, got some NOS Sprague black beauty caps (I'll sell those to guitar amp guys....heh), orange drops, magnifier, and a Jackson TVG-2 Signal Generator, just for grins. Also got a whole case of NOS GE tubes, a big box of NOS 20s and 30s tubes, and another box filled with some huge funky whofandangler tubes. Hytrons, some with ceramic bases, a few that have to be about 10" tall

This hole is far from fished out. He had several Channel Master UHF roof antennas new in box, plus a ton of radios, old test equipment, etc. He's going to dig some more and call me in a week to stop out again :) . The only other TV there was about a '53 Philco split chassis tabletop, which I passed on.

She cleaned up nicely, and all but one knob is there. Even have the owner's manual. The one knob not on the set in this pic I set down somewhere within a 6 foot radius last night and now I can't find the sucker. Don't you just HATE that?? :sigh:

Kinda like socks in the dryer....

Very nice score!

Very cool set! Kinda has that "look we added an image receptor to our radios!" styling approach.

Great find! Having been into vintage TV's for many years, I can say that model Garod with the two large dials is about as rare as some pre-war TV's. One of the most unique post-war vintage TV's of them all. I love the primitive look of it with that busy control panel. Absolutely worth the investment to get it fully restored. Good luck.

Judging by the messages I've just had....if I wanted to sell it I would have little trouble doing so

Great find, what a cool looking set. It has that early Farnsworth look to it with all of the knobs and tall upright look to it. I can't imagine that there's too many of those around. You've got to start a restoration thread on this set! I lost my Predicta pedestal on off switch just the same way. I found another, but where does it go in a couple feet from the set?! Post done internal shots of this set. If I was closer I'd definitely try to get this set from you.

A nice uncommon set. Don't see Garods too much. Very nice set too. Great score!

Neat! Look forward to what else you may unearth there:)

Oh I'm not restoring this one. It's 100% original and untouched. I probably won't hang on to it for the rest of my life, and considering the rarity factor I'll just leave it as is :)

Putting this one on ebay this fall.
