Rca re-45

I have an RCA RE-45 that has a bad volume control and it is a strange one. Does anyone know of a reliable work around? I tried Mark Oppat and he doesn't have anything that will work.

It's a dual rheostat - what are the specs? Maybe surplus sales of Nebraska has something which can be made to work. If it's wire wound maybe the trick of inserting some metal between where the break is could work. It's amazing what they had to do to avoid overload before AVC

They are wirewound and if memory serves one is 300 ohms and the other is 3k ohms. There are multiple breaks in the resistance wire, they would have to be rewound.

Maybe you can find a 500 and a 5k and add resistance in parallel to get them down to 300 and 3k....I've done desperate things like that before.
