Delco TV102
 

This is one of those sets that always caught my eye when flipping through old sams folders.

Other than one little piece of veneer missing from a top back corner, and the missing back it's in great condition. And inside it looks much cleaner than I would expect.

This is an interesting set: It uses 2 separate chassis, one is just for the power supply and horizontal output - HV. And it uses a strange tuner, there's a big variable capacitor in there, but it's sort of like a click-stop uhf tuner, it locks in position at the channels, it's not continuous.

But it'll probably be a few months before I have time to get to fixing this. It will likely be a winter project.

Pretty sure it's a rebadged Hallicrafters, there's a 7" Halli with a Delco badge also.

Must be similar to the Hallicrafters T-64, but the tuner sounds quite different. I had a T-64 not long ago, and it had the "row of buttons" tuner. Same split chassis.

The split chassis is very similar to the Hallicrafters T-67, but that one also has the pushbutton tuner.

That Hallicrafters chassis looks nearly identical to this one. Been checking out the schematics, this would have been a pretty good set back in the day … 4 video IFs, DC restoration, and even though it still uses the old ~25MC IF frequencies, it's not split-sound.

Here's some close up pics of an extra Delco tuner I got with the set. You can see how the wheel in front locks the tuner into position, and since it's just a big tuning capacitor adjacent channels further away from each other in frequency also have to be farther apart on the dial.

A friend gave me a power supply chassis from one, like 60 years ago. That's the closest I got to one of them.
He said it was from a Delco.
After seeing it in Sams, I found it was made by Hallicrafters. :scratch2:

By the way, the T-67 is the Hallicrafters version that came with a Hallicrafters cabinet. The T-62 in my picture is the same chassis, sold by Hallicrafters without a cabinet, for building into whatever cabinet you wanted. The cabinet on the one I show was possibly a very good homemade cabinet, or some kind of aftermarket cabinet that was available for the T-62.

The "mechanical wonder" tuner in the Delco is really cool! I bet those detents are not all exactly in the right spot -- and that is why this tuner architecture is seldom seen. Cool design that actually works quite poorly.
