Family Admiral 1958
 

I have been scanning thousands of old family photos and slides and found this Ektrachrome slide of my great-aunt/uncle Fern and Kenny in their home outside of El Paso from a visit by Kenny's sister...my grandmother. I think the visit is around 1958. So 50's and so El Paso with the rifle on the fireplace. The Admiral just did not fit the décor and looks decoratively lost...but functional.

And if you want to scan that box full of old family memories, I recommend the Epson V370 built just for photo/negative/slide scans. Dirt cheap on the interweb.

I honestly don't see a style clash with the Admiral in that setting at all.

I liked that photo! It is exactly the same model of TV that started my collection 16 years ago! The first of 60 vintage TVs I now own! The TV in the picture is even missing the control door like mine!

I love shots like this, slices of life, frozen in time, to remind us of family and friends and how life used to be. :)

Per, Epson it frontlight scans paper 8.5 x 11.7 inch, but . . . . . .

What is the size of the backlight used for transparencies?

Reason: I have a couple of hundred 8 x 10 inch glass negatives that I'd like to scan.

Interesting that people where breaking those flimsy spring-hinged doors off that early into the life of the set. That explains why so many are found missing these days!

Early, the platen is full frame as they describe. Positives are flat scanned from below against a white plate which seems to be reflective to eliminate positive edges. Slides/negs have the white plate removed and are scanned against an upper light plate shining light to the scanner. The first scan determines neg/pos. Then it goes back and rescans each one.

I did have a problem with a bunch of loose individual 35mm negs. It scanned them but gave me neg scans. Photoshop fixed that. It may have a problem scanning large format negs as it is only set for 35mm. A large format neg would be a positive scan against the white plate. It would scan but need post correcting. It is still the best $99 I spent for the small stuff.

Ovenmaster, exactly what I was trying to show. I have been in contact with the El Paso Historic Society and they are waiting on the edge of their chairs to get these scans to add to their collection. It is all slice-of-life from 1937 to 1971...in color. The 8mm film of the original adobe design control tower at EP airport is worth the effort. American Airline DC-3's on the ramp. Uncle Kenny ran a general store/meat market in the day and lived on a ranch outside town. Horses. Mountains. Desert. It is all we grew up with if you are old enough to remember. Get the scanners going.
