Stromberg-Carlson TV12
 

I found an old TV-12, and I can't find much info on it. Can anyone assist me finding info on this thing?

I've restored the 10" Stromberg Carlson incarnation of this set, so I may be able to answer further questions.

Be careful with the tuner BTW. The tuning shaft once you go back inside the tuner is ceramic, and easy to break...It's grease can turn to glue and gum things up. If is is gummed don't force it, take it apart clean the old grease off and relube.

Are you going to try and get the set working again? If so have you ever repaired an old tv before? I ask because it makes it easier for VK members to answer your questions when we know some of your electronics back round.

I had one of these sets in blonde and recently traded it for a nice Predicta Tandem. Dumont sourced chassis, which is the same if not similar to RA-103. If your tuner appears to operate then you're ahead of the game as these have ceramic shafts which are often broken resulting in a 'disconnected' though captive tuning knob on the front.

It is electrically and mechanically the same as the RA-103. I have a dumont 103 doghouse, and compared chassis with my S-C TV-10. A few of the lytic can's sections were shuffled, and one or two other can lytic sections were made tubulars in the S-C IIRC, but the RA-103 had several production changes throughout it's production life which may account for even those differences.

Heck, I even restored my S-C TV-10 off the RA-103 schematic and the connections all jibed.:thmbsp:

I know approximately nothing about electronics and/or televisions. I was just trying to figure out what this thing was, see if maybe it was worth saving, and learn a little about the tv. If it looks to be in good shape, I may try to find a place to sell it or trade it for something useful. If I tried to restore this thing, I would just end up breaking it and/or injuring myself or someone else.

Have the console version,is a Dumont clone, the CRT has a good sized ion burn in the center of the screen, typical of a Dumont CRT.

Most here would agree this is a very interesting set but if you are intent on going down the TV repair rabbit-hole, please start out by restoring tube radios of the same vintage, which are cheap and plentiful. I was able to step up to TVs after doing that.

You are in a good position to learn post-war TV if you have not worked on the more standard TV designs that came later. You need to re-learn everything and for some of us who spent lots of time learning on the late 1950s thru 80s TVs, that is MUCH more difficult.
