Need repair help w/a tiny Panasonic...

I recently obtained from a fellow VK member a 1969 Panasonic 1.5" model IC-001, AKA "Mica One". it is in excellent cosmetic shape, has an AC adaptor/battery charger, but is dead as a door knob. Anyone here know anything about these l'il guy, and/or work on 'em ?!? Sure would love to get it working again. I know less than nothing about working on this stuff, so don't even try to coax me thru it... Anyhow, any allotherwise suggestions are welcome..

The knob on the charger is not indexed...You could install the knob such that it points to on when the switch is in the off setting. click it thru it's range and make sure it is really ON, and not off or charge mode. There ain't no battery so charge is not useful. Also in addition to the power brick needing to be on the on-off-volume knob on the set needs to be on.

The week before I mailed it to you I powered it on and watched good picture and sound from my channel 7 modulator so unless USPS shook something loose it should at least give you snow and volume knob crackle.

First thing with working on micro TV's is a good stiff drink.
Other than that power supply is almost always reason for dead set or
the jack where it plugs in.

Well, NEVER underestimate the power of asking about, or playing w/something again... After reading Tom's post, I tried 'er again & got Picture & Sound. Bad Boi needs a little judicious squirt or w/some De-Oxit, & I oughta be All Set...

Glad you got it working.

Sandy, is that the little Panasonic B/W that would come with the magnifier? I remember seeing those in a Berstein Applebee store we had in Boulder, CO. They also sold a neat Panasonic fan that when you touched the oscillating fans metal screen it would instantly stop the fan blade. The salesman got annoyed as he knew what 7th grader would ever have the money to buy the fan or the tv. Very neat memories though.

Naw, THIS one, DON'T have the little magnifying glass. I have a reasonable collection of these widdle fellers that I've managed to accumulate thru the years-MOST of 'em are Sans Magnifier. The Magnifier kinda makes the picture look real weird- Lotsa distortion & all... I have a couple of the COLOR version from 1984-85, & the Magnifier REALLY effs THEM up. Panny made a dizzying array of these doohickies thru the years-Some had antenna jacks, integral AM/FM radios, A/C adaptors, you name it. One of my Color versions, I ordered from a local hardware store, it was $350, & the guy whistled & told me for THAT kinda money, he coulda got me a REAL TV...They just DON'T unnerstan, do they, Pancho ?!? (grin)

Apparently a magnifying lens was available for the set:

I never had the magnifier. All I had was the TV and its charger/PS brick so that is what I sent Sandy.
