LG 42LB5800 LED Woes
2 Attachment(s)
Picked up this 42LB5800 from the roadside. Its a 2014 model. It rattled when I moved it. Turns out all the lenses had fallen off. Not a big deal to reglue them. The screen looked good!
But 6 LEDs were burned out. So, in my quest to replace them I turned to Ebay and ordered a strip of 10. They were listed as cold white, which is what I needed, but it turns out they glowed yellow. Do they need to burn in? So, I ordered a second set of LEDs from another supplier, that also listed them as cold white. I couldn't get them to turn at all (either polarity). So, does anybody know the trick to obtain the proper LEDs for these things? There are 4 rows of 8 LEDs each so changing them all is not an impossibility. Thanks. |
I just pull the strips from broken panels - never tried actually ordering them.

There are two types of lenses used in LED sets. The domed ones use a smaller LED than the cylindrical ones. I've never seen the domed ones fall off.
So I've decided to re-assemble the rattlevision. It had been dissassembled on the LR floor for 2 months. The results are good even with the yellow LEDs. I'm thinking the yellow is caused by a lower than expected voltage. You really don't notice it unless you know where to look. |

You know, you are absolutely right. I should have known that.
I'll put up with it like that till I can locate the correct LEDs. Most likely I'll find another rattlevision on the roadside since this problem seems to be endemic to this series of sets. |
good luck on gluing of those lenses. pita

Not a problem. There are 3 little indents on the lenses that align to protrusions on the strip. I used small drops of Ultrablack from the auto parts store.
The only problem is if you have to replace an LED, then your alignment might be "off" a little. There is a procedure on Youtube using a piece of diffuser to align them correctly. Works pretty well since I had to replace 6 LEDs. |
