Driving down a 4 lane hiway near here (Peachtree Industrial) out of the corner of my eye, I catch a glimpse of a porthole set.
It was at a junk/ antique store on a small sidewalk covered by a small awning. Pretty much exposed to the weather. It didn't look too bad for it's age.
CRT looked to be intact and peeping thru the back cover, all I could see was dust.
So I went inside and asked about it and was told that it was not for sale. I told them they should relocate it from the weather if it is ever to be worth anything.
Sadly I left.

Is store on Doraville area? or at the end of Chamblee?

Saw that about 6 months ago when I was there. They told me the same thing. Guy said it was promised to someone. They did however give me a Clairtone console stereo that was next to it. It's across from the Honda place.

Jeez...That is a 48 Zenith porthole, the first generation they sold. It sould be in a museum, not outside getting peed on by mother nature!

I've got the mahogany version, and without the power supply chassis (not sure if anyone noticed it missing, I sure didn't) IIRC I had to bid it up to $160 at an ETF meet to get it...Restored that could be a $300 set.
Someone should go there and say "that TV has been sitting there 6 months if the schlub that bought it and is too lazy to save it from the elements shows up and complans that you let me have it you can give him part of this big wad of cash, and tell him he shouldn't have left it outside here for half a year".

If that doesn't work it might be time to cake some mud on the plates of your most non-descript car, grab a hockey mask, and pick it up off the porch at 3Am. :D

Either this guy's like the classic car folk who holds crap for friends because they owe them a dog, a transmission and beer from a distributor swap he did 20 years ago or he's using it to attract people in.
Tell him to shut up and take your money.

When an owner even hints that he's not going to part with something, I instantly forget I ever saw it. It's saves a lot of wasted time. In a situation like that, he'll let it delaminate and fall apart before he'll let a collector have it. Really, even at this point it's going to need a lot of work. I personally would pass. I think it's a 12", not the very first 10" model.
