I unterstood most of what that guy commented. Yes, indeed, people where curios. It was something really new!
Back then Rio de Janeiro (River of Janaury) was still the capital of Brazil.
But why the transported the equypment up on those aerial tramways/cable cars? The transmiter was put on a hill in order to have a better covarage? I know Rio de Janeiro haves some hilly areas.

The transmitter was put on top of Sugar Loaf mountain, and the cable car since 1912 is the only way to get there.

Why exactly they choosen that location?
I've see that part of the equypment had modular construction, which still today is a good ideea.

Most cities that have a big hill or mountain put their transmitters and antennas and there. Advantages are 2 fold...you can build a shorter tower for the same antenna height/coverage area, and there should not be a mountain shadow creating a no reception area close to the tower.

Taller mountains if you build on the side could also act as a natural reflector to achieve directional transmission if that is desired.
