At my nearest antique store i found a 1964-ish Sony 4-204uw micro set. Missing the power cords but has the "dead ni-cad battery pack" any hints on what to look out for, etc?

If you can, power up in a variac and monitor wattage. Watch the filter caps. Believe this is still AC in right?

Hello again, I don't have the power cord, which is a Sony 4 pin connector I saw that this set has a removable nicad power pack that detaches with 2 captive screws. I knew that the nicads had to be dead shorted, so i removed the battery pack from the set. I don't have a variable DC supply, so i tried the dim bulb technique. I happen to have a spare automobile dome light bulb which i connected in series with my alligator leads and a 12 volt battery. at first the light comes on somewhat bright but i can see it fading slowly with no magic smoke escaping. no sound out of the speaker but when i fiddle with the controls i have a horizontal line. better than nothing. Oh before i forget, i put this in the wrong section, could a mod move this thread to portable tv's please.

Cool! Vertical deflection failure. Hv is working and CRT looks like its decent. Reacp the lytics. Check for voltage at vertical transformer and possible signs of solder breakdown on boards.

If this set has board edge connectors like the 5" version, some good cleaning might help.

I have one of these and it works even with the dead battery installed...all mine needed was a new belt for the UHF tuner drive.
Granted mine is getting old and the vertical hold has to be at one end to lock.

Had mine for nearly 20 years now...
