working on a Conrac CYB.
 

So at the ETF I purchased a Contact CYB which I have heard was their last roundy color monitor. Someone offered a copy of the manual, but hasn't gotten back to me since. Back in spring I brought it up on a variac and it had a picture with some issues... I removed the cataract back in the summer (unfortunately I damaged the original safety glass on the 21GVP22 and had to get another.... summer got busy and it sat partially disassembled.

I recently brought the parts to the basement changed all the tubular paper caps on the sweep chassis, rebuilt the power switch (which got damaged when I took it apart for the cataract removal, and the knob wouldn't come off despite the set screw being removed) and reassembled the electronics to the point of testing them. I chose to reassemble it only moderately well balanced on a stack of VCRs on a rickety TV stand. It is basically too heavy for me to lift so I did that so it would be on something that can roll that it is the right height that I can slide it onto a console that I plan to keep it on (the plan was to throw it together in an hour and transfer it to a console)....now I don't have raster and the H osc seems to be having issues...so I need to fix it before the stand gives out....

If anyone has the schematic/service manual that would be really nice to have.

Today on stupid mistakes facilitated by bad design practice: mixing up yoke leads. The yoke is marked for red and blue horizontal leads and yellow and yellow with black stripe for the vertical....so what colors of wire did Conrac use?...Why red and grey for the horizontal and yellow and brown for the vertical (of course)....so what did I do in the face of this soo easy an engineer could get it wrong color coding...I swapped the brown and grey and thusly pissed off the horizontal section... reverting to the correct hook up it fixed it.


Interesting that they made a rectangular version.

Are you sure that's a CYB and not a CYA? Maybe you've been drinkin' too much michelob?

Yeah I didn't want to do it but dad was in Kansas on business till yesterday and I can only lift it safely dismantled or with help... The idea was to throw it together in a couple hours and roll it over to my Packard Bell console then slide it on top...not for it to sit on that ramshackle assemblage for 2 days.... that it hasn't collapsed or tipped over yet (as far as I know/knock on wood) Impresses me. All and all it is a pretty weird day, there is a Halloween blizzard (I expect to see kids in Santa costumes), I got to work last despite living closest, and my Conrac has stayed nearly 2 days on a stand I wasn't confident would last 2 hours...

I'm pretty sure it is a CYB... I'll double check when I get home this afternoon. I bought that sign partly because it was dirt cheap (tube for bottom border of the ribbon is busted), partly because I wanted to test a pair of RADIO neon tubes from a TV repair shop I bought... Never had any Michelob before...Is it good?

The lytics probably need a change soon since there is a tiny bit of horizontal breathing... I'm probably going to put that off for now.

Convergence and other adjustments are fairly dialed in now and this is probably the best performing roundscreen set I've ever seen (I forget how it compares to my TM21) running Dr.NO on my JVC pro SVHS deck the picture looks better than DVD!

I'd check those 6080 regulator tubes first. Then check to make sure your 395V and 250V are correct. Adjust via P700 if not.
I like Coors here but I know that in Wisconsin you've got to have some serious antifreeze.
The last station I worked at always had beer in the fridge at the transmitter building. It was itemized as, you guessed it, antifreeze.

Aww, shit... SNOW on Halloween... What a Bummer for the Spooks 'n' Hobgoblins.. Raining 'n' NASTY here in Bugtussle.. They have "Trunk or Treat" down here- you're sposed to line the main street downtown, have yr trunk loaded w/candies, & dole 'em out to the kadiddles... Goes pretty well, unless it rains, like its doing now.. I dunno if Bosslady bought any or not, but even w/"Trunk 'n'treat" you still get a few. She's also said we're goin' "Out" for supper, so I may not get to terrorize any kids at all....Boo, Hiss.. I've got my "Sandy Geiger "costume on-Reckon THAT'S plenty scary, as is..

Trunk or treat sounds less like a community event and more like a mafia thing...."Eh, you know Vinny was awefully rude to my favorite waitress when asking for dessert on Halloween so I told him the restaurant may be out but I got some cake in my trunk, but ya gotta dig for it...when he was rummaging around I shoved him in and closed the lid. It's still coming down...I don't think they stocked up on salt yet. None of the roads were salted and during the morning commute and lunch they hadn't plowed since the wee hours of the morning so the roads were complete skating rinks...worst traction I can recall driving on in the last year and a half...in the morning I tried passing someone and after I got past and tried to get back on my side of the road I went into probably a half block long cycle of fish tailing (was afraid I was going to go sideways a couple times), at lunch going at least 10 under the speed limit I tried to stop for a light (3 way with my path being straight)...on dry pavement I could've stopped at least 3 times over, but with zero traction all I could do was jam brake and horn down to warm the one car not to pull out...I essentially came to a stop on the opposite side of the light then let off the brake since I was already there... I nearly hit a car turning into the Wendy's at 10mph...the front wheels became skis 1/4 of the way into the turn and I had to mash the brakes and hard oversteer to miss....the burban normally does much better so I was starting to think something was wrong with it but all the ditched cars and other people skidding and fish tailing indicates that the roads are just that slick....I got to watch a big flat bed truck with a trailer not even TRY to stop for a light I managed to stop for.
The municipalities out here have really started to suck at road maintenance in the last year...and they upped the registration tax too.
They atleast plowed it in the last 2 hours so my impending crawl home has hope of being less harrowing...

It's a CYB21 to be precise. the 395 was about 100V high so I dialed it down after that I checked 250 and it is at 251V so that is fine....width and convergence changed so I need to look at those.

If you look at sch_3 it has inscribed above the CRT symbol both CRT numbers, so it came both ways.

Lookin good so far. I have a few 6080s/6AS7s left over from my OTL headphone amp days if you want them.

You can build a TV dolly fairly easily, out of two 2x2 pieces of plywood and a 2x4 and some casters.
