Emerson 1232 score

Greetings,

Just received this set and looking forward to getting it up and running.

Seems to be a popular set and easy on the back too ! Missing some knobs

Would someone happen to have a scan of 354-7 sams ?

Plan to dig into it soon.

Happy Holidays

After removing the chassis, I took out the B+ fuse and powered it up and all filaments lit. A good start but as the
old saying goes one step foward two back. The vertical output xformer was disconnected, and upon further testing
both windings are wide open. Yoke windings appear OK

Anyone have one they would sell? Emerson 738134/Thordarson 26S12 or ??? Nothing on that auction site, also sent a note to Moyer.

Well I then proceded to tack in 7 filter caps, nothing more and powered up and the radio and phono input both function
so there is some life. Will probably input a signal to see if TV mode produces any audio.

From my personal experience this is the first VOT I have come accross that is bad. Anything in particular that could have
caused this or was it just its time ? Could still use 354-7 folder

Think you'll Lub, Lub, Lub this l'il guy.. Think the CRT's the same one RCA used in those l'il 8" portables they made in umpteen different colors & configurations in 1957-59 or so..

vt105 12-09-2019 10:31 PM

As a matter of fact I already do

You're right about the CRT. The RCA & Emerson both use the 8DP4.

I also have one of the 8" RCA sets but after what I've read they are a nitemare

to service. It's on the way back burner for now but from what I remember

it had a bright raster so if the Emerson CRT doesn't pan out......hmmmmm

Sourced a Vertical Output Xformer. Replaced a few wax caps, and after a few

control tweaks was rewarded with video & audio.

Not perfect but watchable

Good feeling to see it working again

If you need some knobs, I just received a mayonaise jar full of old knobs the other day and I think I saw some old TV knobs in there, I'll take a look and see what I have and I might have what you need.

MM Thanks for the comment:thmbsp:

vortalexfan.... Appreciate the offer. Specifically radio tuning, contrast,
on/off/volume, & TV fine tuning. Something close would be great too !

Well I looked through my knob stash and all I saw was a lone VHF Tuner Knob that had a UHF Position, and the other knobs you spoke of I didn't find anything like it in my knob stash, I received the other day, they were mostly 1970s stereo receiver knobs and a few knobs from some portable radios.

Thanks for looking.

Knobs are usually the last piece to the puzzle if ever.

I have two of the RCA ones. I used one back in their day (1963) as the set in
my college dorm room. My suitemate, however, had a CTC-7.

Thye are not in fact hard to service. They are modular and the wires are
long enough so they work disassembled. The only nasty problem I ever had
was a bad socket for the HV rectifier, which I replaced with an NTE silicon one.

vt105 12-27-2019 09:33 PM

Well I decided to dig out my dormant RCA 8-PT-7012 to see what gives.

Just like before it still doesn't work very well

So I'll be posting a thread of its own
