Stromberg Carlson TC-10 focus coil - please help!

4 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone,

Since I have some time at home, I have started to work on a Stromberg Carlson TC-10. It has had a rough life, I think - a few burned out power resistors and some very sloppy repairs. Also a PIA to work on.... lol

Anyway, I recently found out that the focus coil is open. Obviously, the previous owner tried to work on it as it was spliced in with unsoldered twisted wire and electrician tape in two places... and it looks like they took the coil apart to try to work on it, as it appears to be melted in a strange way (see pics).

I really don't think I want to rewind this coil - looks like a LOT of turns, and I have little experience with winding coils. Does anyone have an extra focus coil I could purchase? It looks identical to the focus coil that's in my GE Locomotive (806), but I don't want to remove the coil from that working TV.

Also (and less pressing at the moment), one of the antenna coils, right at the input to the tuner, has been removed. This TV has a high and low band switch, so at least one should work. But, the other antenna coil seems to have been replaced by a paper clip or something... At least the trimmer capacitor seems to be intact.

Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Kris

Sams gives the DC resistance of your focus coil as 1000 ohms. Anything close with the same mounting arrangement should work and you can use series or parallel resistors to trim it if needed. I probably have a few around here, I'll see what I can find. Someone may have a parts set.

Thank you for looking, Tim!

Yes, 1000 ohms is correct. The only other focus coil I have is currently being used in my GE 806, and I don't want to remove it as that set is working. It looks identical to the damaged one that is in the Stromberg Carlson (same lead colors and everything).

Just so everyone knows, the picture tube in the Stromberg Carlson is a 10BP4.

I have a coil from a GE 800. It measures 1.2K ohms and has mounting ears 2 5/16 center to center. Looks the same as yours. Send me an email for a photo.

You're awesome! I'll PM you!
