59 Zenith

just got a new to me TV over the weekend. It looks like it is almost perfect except for one thing. It was placed in the loft of a building and birds had roosted over it. It has a lot of bird droppings on the top. I did wet a rag and then get some off. The area I got it off of looks like it doesn't have much if any damage from it. I am hoping I don't have to refinish it or figure out how to redo that part. Other than that it looks complete and a good one to rebuild. On a extra note I got a 50s era TV light to put on top of it. The lamp is a duck that is flying off.

I got it from a friend that it was her parents. Its probably been in the loft for forty years or more. I am planning on having a small shop built for my wife and I to do a side business, she will do sewing and I plan to work on tube amps and similar. I plan to put this in the shop for a display. I had been looking for a late 60s to early 70s all metal zenith TV like I had as a kid but I think this is the same size CRT and a better one as far as looks. So I will settle for this. I like it. Anyway here it is.

Looks like it's missing a bit of veneer above the control panel. If it cleans up it should be a nice set.

The third tube set I ever bought was one of those in blond with a swivel base and a different speaker grill...mine had vertical hold issues that took me time to fix. It's sitting next to me as I type waiting for me to someday reglue the side panel that peeled off after the original glue dried out and let go.

These are good sets.

If the area your looking at with the missing veneer above the channel selector its actually a finish, its a solid piece of wood. I think I can sand it a little and put a new finish on it. If I get a chance I will see if it cleans up this weekend. I usally don't refinish anything until I rebuild the electronics but I am curious on how this one will clean up.

Look out that lamp with the duck , that duck left a mess lol

Leave the duck poop on the top of the TV. It will just add realism to the duck lamp.

They're good sets, but vertical chassis sets are a royal pain to work on...

The vertical chassis sets were earlier then this.
